Deadlines near for State Bar elections
Serve your colleagues, help shape the profession.
Throw your hat in the ring for one of these State Bar offices.
State Bar offices. While the Nominating Committee
recently announced its candidates for president-elect, treasurer, and
Judicial Council representative, members interested in running for one
of these offices can self nominate by submitting to the State Bar a
petition signed by 100 active Bar members by Feb. 1. The president-elect
serves a one-year term before becoming president. The treasurer serves
two years, and the Judicial Council representative serves three years.

Board of Governors. Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9,
11, 13, and 15 will elect governors in 2005. District 2 will elect seven
governors; District 9, three; and all other districts, one. The Board of
Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year
terms.
To be considered for a seat on the board, members must submit a
petition signed by 10 active members in their district to the State Bar
by March 1.

The Government Lawyers Division (GLD) members will
choose a president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and three division
directors to serve two-year terms. Interested GLD members are invited to
write to the GLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Feb.

The Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) members will
choose a president-elect for a one-year term, and a secretary,
treasurer, and five directors to serve two-year terms. Only active and
emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. Interested
NRLD members are asked to send their resumes and letters of interest to
the NRLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Jan.
14.
The Senior Lawyers Division (SLD) seeks members
interested in serving in the following positions: president-elect for a
one-year term, secretary and three directors to serve two-year terms,
and one director to serve a one-year term. Interested members are
invited to write to the SLD Nominating Committee in care of the State
Bar by Jan. 14.
The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) seeks members
interested in running for president-elect. Interested members are
invited to write to the YLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the
State Bar by Feb. 1.
YLD directors and other officers will be elected during the annual
meeting in May, by nomination from the floor.
Elections. Election ballots will be mailed by April
8 and must be returned by April 22. Those elected will take office July
1, 2005.
