State Bar leaps forward into the electronic age
"Electronic communication is becoming the preferred method for
receiving information for many State Bar members," says Executive
Director George Brown. "Receiving information electronically delivers
the information in a more timely manner, links the reader directly to
related information, and saves time and money on printing and mailing.
The technology also creates two-way communication between the State Bar
and its members."
The 2003 membership survey shows that State Bar members' level of
comfort for receiving information electronically is rising.
Approximately 83 percent of the members who responded indicated they are
comfortable communicating via email.
The State Bar recognizes that most people are very discriminating
about who they release their email address to. The State Bar does not
distribute member email addresses to any non-State Bar groups, agencies,
institutions, associations, or vendors for any commercial or
informational purposes.
The State Bar currently uses email in the following ways:
Time-sensitive announcements periodic communications
on issues before the Board of Governors and other timely news.

Lawyers Legislative Action Network (LLAN) a free

Newsletters Government, Nonresident, and Young
Lawyers divisions, Directline (for local bar leaders), and a
variety of section and committee newsletters now are distributed in
electronic format.
"As the State Bar looks to delivering more information
electronically, I urge you to put your email on file with the State
Bar," says Brown. "Saving money on printing and postage also allows the
State Bar to allocate its limited resources to other member and public
services."
