Renowned Psychologist, Richard Davidson, Presents 'Healthy Minds for Lawyers'

May 1, 2024 – Mindfulness and other well-being practices offer evidence-based relief for lawyers dedicated to the maintenance of a healthy mind, according to Prof. Richard J. Davidson, founder and director of the Center for Healthy Minds at U.W. Madison and founder of Healthy Minds Innovations, Inc.

“Because of confidentiality issues, lawyers often don’t have many other people to talk to,” said Davidson, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Harvard University and published a New York Times Bestseller, “The Emotional Life of Your Brain.”

“In this high-stress environment, it’s important for us to nurture skills that enable us to navigate these challenges with greater equanimity, and greater clarity, in a way that would help our work be more efficient and decrease the likelihood we’ll succumb to stress-related disorders,” said Davidson, the William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry in U.W.’s Department of Psychology.

Davidson recently presented a one-hour CLE (1 LAU) entitled “Healthy Minds in the Legal Profession,” presented by State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE®.

Davidson has been internationally recognized for his work on studying emotion and the brain and for promoting meditation and other contemplative practices.

The science that supports cultivating a healthy mind, Davidson said, is an invitation to explore a very accessible path.

“Cultivating these skills through simple exercises that are completely secular doesn’t require any special instrumentation, it doesn’t require us to be in any special posture,” said Davidson, who delivers practical, science-based strategies to help you stay on the competitive edge, reduce stress, and achieve a more fulfilling career and life.

Webcast replays of “Healthy Minds in the Legal Profession 2024” are available on selected dates in April and May, from noon to 12:50 p.m.

Webcast replays allow attendees to engage in chat discussions during or after the program. The program is also available on-demand.
