    Deepfake Content: It's Here, It's 'Dangerous,' and It Can Influence Your Client's Case

    AI-generated deepfake content is already being used in political campaigns, and is starting to have an impact on various areas of law – and potentially on your client’s case. How can you find out how to recognize its use?

    June 21, 2023 – Last month, the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) prohibited the use of deepfake content in political campaigns.

    In a release on May 3, 2023, the AAPC said that “‘deep fake’ generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a dramatically different and dangerous threat to democracy” and that “at its core, ‘deep fake’ content is a deception and has no place in legitimate, ethical campaigns.”

    On June 8, Huffington Post reported that a Florida politician has already used deepfake video against an opponent. The video isn’t, however, the first use of AI-generated deepfake images for political campaigns.

    If AI disinformation can influence elections, it can also influence the law – and your client’s case, as well as impact intellectual property, evidentiary issues, and other areas of law.

    Learn how to recognize, account for, and mitigate risks posed by deepfake technology at the 1.0 CLE webcast program Artificial Intelligence, Deepfakes, and Disinformation 2023 from State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE™.

    In this program, you’ll hear directly from Todd Helmus, a nationally recognized expert on disinformation and extremism. Helmus will discuss the technology behind deepfakes and explain how it’s used to disseminate disinformation. He will also explore:

    • why the current political and social environment is primed for the misuse of disinformation;

    • how domestic actors and foreign adversaries have used deepfake technology;

    • the risks associated with deepfakes and other forms of AI technology; and

    • approaches and regulatory initiatives designed to mitigate the risks of deepfakes.

    Join Artificial Intelligence, Deepfakes, and Disinformation 2023 and be in a better position to determine if the information you’re working with in your cases is credible and authentic.

    This program is live from the State Bar Center in Madison on June 27, 2023, with webcast replays following on specific dates in July, August, September, and November 2023.
