James C. Boll Jr., corporate counsel, Madison Gas & Electric, Madison, won the race for State Bar president-elect, defeating James Troupis, partner, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Madison,

2,774 votes to 2,437 votes. Boll’s term begins July 1 when Douglas W. Kammer, Kammer & Studinski Chartered, Portage, succeeds Diane S. Diel as State Bar president.

“I am pleased to have earned the votes and confidence of the lawyers of the State Bar of Wisconsin,” Boll said. “I would like to thank Jim Troupis for a spirited and friendly campaign.  I am looking forward to working with President-Elect Kammer, President Diel, and the Board of Governors to improve Bar services, achieve better communication with Bar members, and involve more members in our organization.  In addition, I hope all members of our organization will support an open and honest debate about the mandatory versus voluntary Bar membership issue.”

In other State Bar races, Margaret Wrenn Hickey, Milwaukee, was elected State Bar treasurer, defeating Kevin J. Lyons, Milwaukee with 3,151 votes to 1,778 votes.

Thomas W. Bertz, Stevens Point, defeated Mary E. Burke, Madison, for a seat on the Judicial Council, with 2,553 votes to 2,333 votes.
