April 15, 2009  – Fifty years ago President Eisenhower proclaimed the first Law Day a "day of national dedication to the principle of government under law." The State Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) seeks volunteers and classrooms to celebrate this enduring principle on May 1 by making one-hour presentations in classrooms statewide to educate students about our legal system and the legal profession.

Attorney volunteers will provide interactive presentations regarding the legal system and what it is like to be a lawyer. Generally, programs last for one class period, and YLD members will provide training and classroom materials.   This year, the American Bar Association is encouraging presentations for Law Day to commemorate the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.

The YLD is committed to the Law Day program because it benefits students, attorney volunteers, and the community. Not only are students educated about the legal system, but they also have an opportunity to have a positive experience with an attorney.
