New Office of Recovery and Reinvestment helps move federal stimulus money in Wisconsin

March 25, 2009 – With passage of the federal recovery bill last month, Wisconsin is expected to receive about $3.5 billion of federal stimulus money. To help move federal stimulus funds and jumpstart job creation in the state, Gov. Jim Doyle created the Wisconsin Office of Recovery and Reinvestment. The office is the central clearinghouse for information and opportunities for the federal dollars coming to Wisconsin.

The Office of Recovery and Reinvestment is working with communities, local governments, the private sector and other stakeholders to help put recovery money to work in the state. Through the office, agencies and local units of government can request stimulus dollars.

The Office of Recovery and Reinvestment website, www.recovery.wisconsin.gov, outlines how recovery funds will be used in Wisconsin and directs you to the specific state agencies and programs that will be administering the contracts and grants to bring the stimulus dollars to Wisconsin.

The website has project funding opportunities organized by program category, in which each program has a brief description, key state and federal agency contact information, the types of entities that are eligible to receive funding for projects, and an identification of the level of government (federal, state, or local) responsible for selecting projects or disbursing funds.

The website also helps Wisconsin citizens track and understand where the stimulus funds are going within the state and the types of activities, projects and programs that will be eligible for those funds.

During the coming weeks, the office will be analyzing the federal stimulus bill and providing much more information. For more information on Wisconsin’s implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, visit the Wisconsin Office of Recovery and Reinvestment website at www.recovery.wisconsin.gov.
