    State Bar recognizes lawyers’ extraordinary public service at Annual Convention

    March 18, 2009 – The Volunteer Lawyers Recognition Celebration recognizes individuals who made outstanding pro bono, public service, or law-related education contributions. This free event will be held at the Annual Convention in Milwaukee, May 6, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

    “The Wisconsin lawyers who devote their time and talent as volunteers to the State Bar of Wisconsin help make our Bar association one of the best in the nation,” says State Bar President Diane Diel. “I congratulate each and every one of the volunteers honored with these awards. You have worked hard to advance the profession, to advance the causes of justice and to help provide access to justice. You are examples of dedication and excellence and inspire those who serve with you. On behalf of all the lawyers in the State of Wisconsin, we gratefully thank you for your service and your dedication to our profession and to the public.”

    The 2008 award recipients are:

    • Mark C. Young, Brookfield, Trapp & Hartman, S.C., Law-related Education Attorney of the Year;

    • Gary M. King, Eau Claire, King Law Office, Pro Bono Award for a Private, Government, or Corporate Practitioner;

    • Cynthia A. Lepkowski, Greendale, Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, Pro Bono Award for a Legal Services Attorney;

    • Michele L. Perreault, Madison, DeWitt, Ross & Stevens, Hotline Attorney of the Year;

    • Connie Deer, Madison, Legal Action of Wisconsin, Dan Tuchscherer Outstanding Public Interest Law Attorney;

    • Karen Siettmann, U.W., and Camille Monahan, Marquette, Outstanding Public Interest Law Students;

    • Kathleen Reiley, Madison, Kathleen Reiley, S.C., WisLAP Volunteer of the Year;

    • Roy E. Wagner, Milwaukee, von Briesen & Roper SC, and Terry F. Peppard, Madison, Law Office of Terry Peppard, Charles Dunn Wisconsin Lawyer™ Author Award;

    • Martin J. Greenberg, Milwaukee, Greenberg & Hoeschen LLC, Wisconsin Law Foundation Donald O’Melia Local Service Award;

    • Tom Sleik, La Crosse, Hale, Skemp, Hanson, Skemp & Sleik, Wisconsin Law Foundation Belle Case La Follette Outstanding Professional Award;

    The 2009 Annual Convention is scheduled for May 6 – 9, at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee.
