Peter Fox: Preparing for and mastering the tough media interview

Sept. 2, 2009 — Peter Fox, executive director of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, offers insight on how to deal with news media interviews. In this video series, he discusses preparing for and mastering the tough interview.

In Part 2: Preparing for the Interview, Fox discusses “bridging,” the single most important technique in maintaining control of the interview. In Part 3: Mastering the Tough Interview, he tells lawyers how to respond to tricky questions and offers additional ways to get the interview back on track.

In Part 1: Basic Suggestions for Working With the Media, published in the Aug. 19 issue of InsideTrack, Fox advises lawyers to return reporters’ phone calls and meet with reporters face to face.

Fox has nearly 40 years of media experience with daily newspapers, university and corporate relations, and as a spokesman for state government during disaster response and recovery activities.

He spoke at the 2009 State Bar Annual Convention on May 8.
