Board of Bar Examiners extends CLE reporting deadline to March 2

The Board of Bar Examiners has announced that Wisconsin lawyers who must report their CLE credits this year have an additional month to do so. CLE credits still must be earned by Dec. 31. The BBE has extended the filing date to March 2 due to time considerations in the course approval process. The inclusion of ondemand courses has significantly increased the administrative burden on the BBE.

Supreme Court puts bite in tradename suits

The Wisconsin Supreme Court held that compensatory awards are available where the damages are shown "to a reasonable certainty" and that intentional infringement invites punitive damages. The court also held that a contract providing for recovery of attorney fees can extend to non-contract actions such as trademark infringement.

Nominations deadline for Judge of the Year and Lifetime Jurist Achievement awards extended to Jan. 2

The State Bar's Bench and Bar Committee is searching for two outstanding jurists to honor with its annual judicial awards. Nominations are sought for the 2008 Judge of the Year and the Lifetime Jurist Achievement awards. Both awards will be presented at the 2009 State Bar Annual Convention in Milwaukee, May 6 - 8.
