    Authors to Receive Wisconsin Lawyer awards

    New Hires, Promotions, Partners

    Eric G. Barber, U.W. 2004 magna cum laude, has joined the Madison office of Heller Ehrman LLP. He previously was a law clerk to Judge Richard C. Wesley of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

    Steve Bablitch, U.W. 1979, has joined the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP as a partner and focuses on corporate and health care law. He previously was secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Administration.

    David J. Gilles, U.W. 1974, has joined LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn, Madison, as a shareholder and focuses on energy, telecommunications, antitrust, and consumer regulatory matters. He previously was general counsel for the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

    Thomas R. Grogan, U.W. 1982, has rejoined the administrative staff in the chancellor's office at U.W.-Oshkosh and has opened Tom Grogan Consulting LLC, 214 N. Yellowstone Dr., Madison, providing organizational consulting services to public and private educational institutions.

    Daniel J. Habeck, U.W. 1998, has been elected a partner at Cramer, Multhauf & Hammes LLP, Waukesha, and continues to represent developers, lenders, and municipalities.

    René Hernández, U.W. 1994, has joined St. Paul Travelers of Florida, Tampa, as senior vice president, general counsel, and chief compliance officer. He previously was corporate counsel for Allstate Insurance Co.

    Thomas K. Houck, Marquette 1996 cum laude, has joined Jacobson, Schrinsky & Houck, Milwaukee, as a shareholder and practices in personal injury and wrongful death matters.

    Sharon R. Long, Marquette 1995, has joined Heuer Law Offices S.C., Milwaukee, and focuses on insurance subrogation and creditors' rights.

    Lesli H. McLinden, Notre Dame 1988, has joined Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., Milwaukee, as assistant general counsel and assistant secretary on the investment products and advisory services team. She previously was assistant general counsel and corporate secretary of UMB Fund Services Inc., Milwaukee.

    Therese M. Newholm, George Mason 1992, has become of counsel with Gehr-ke & Associates S.C., Wauwatosa, and focuses on patent prosecution, patent reexamination and reissue proceedings, PCT applications, patent appeal practices, copyrights, and trademarks.

    James P. O'Neil, Marquette 1988, has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is with O'Neil Law Offices, Green Bay.

    Patrick A. O'Neil, U.W. 1992, has become a partner with Piper & Schmidt, Milwaukee, and continues to focus on insurance defense litigation.

    Rocke Calvelli, Marquette 1972, and Terrence Thom, U.W. 1975, have joined Stafford Rosenbaum LLP in the firm's new office at 325 N. Corporate Dr., Brookfield. Calvelli, who is of counsel, focuses on civil litigation, products liability, insurance defense, and creditors' rights. Thom, a senior partner, focuses on products liability, public utility law, and civil litigation. Both attorneys previously were with Quale, Feldbruegge, Calvelli, Thom & Croke, Milwaukee.

    Craig E. Vance, Marquette 2001, has joined Horizons Law Group LLC, Wauwatosa, as an associate and focuses on consumer law, lemon law, warranty litigation, civil litigation, and small claims matters.

    Peter M. Waldeck, John Marshall 2000, has become a shareholder in Waldeck & Lind, Minneapolis, and practices in civil litigation, insurance defense, and construction defect litigation.

    J. Michael End, Marquette 1973, Jerome A. Hierseman, Marquette 1986, and Shawn R. Crain, U.W. 1985 cum laude, have opened End, Hierseman & Crain LLC, 600 N. Broadway, Suite 300, Milwaukee, which focuses on representing injured parties in medical negligence and other personal injury litigation. Lora A. Kaelber, Marquette 2000, has joined the firm as an associate. All the attorneys previously were with Gray & End LLP.

    Leonard G. Leverson, Harvard 1982, and Mark L. Metz, Harvard 1984, have opened Leverson & Metz S.C., 225 E. Mason St., Suite 100, Milwaukee, concentrating in business bankruptcy and insolvency matters, out-of-court workouts, and related litigation. Leverson previously was with Kravit, Hovel, Krawczyk & Leverson s.c. Metz previously was with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.

    Tim Crisp, Duke 1990, and Ann Ustad Smith, Northwestern 1984, won the 2006 Large Transaction of the Year award issued by the Turnaround Management Association's Chicago/Midwest chapter for their work on the sale of the Antigo Cheese Co. They are partners in the Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP.
