New Hires, Promotions, Partners

Jeffrey T. Batovsky, U.W. 1997, has become director of human resources and legal counsel for Glenbrook Security Services Inc. and Glenbrook Enterprises Inc., Glenview, Ill., and has been admitted to the Illinois Bar. He previously was a litigation associate at Weiss Law Office.

Linda Bennett, U.W. 1989, has become Democratic staff director for the health subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Veterans Affairs. She previously was a lobbyist for the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO.

Bolger

John M. Bolger, Marquette 2003, has joined Schmidt, Rupke, Tess-Mattner & Fox S.C., Brookfield, as an associate, focusing on civil litigation, including personal injury, business, real estate, foreclosures, and collections. He previously was an associate with Cannon & Dunphy S.C.

Brandon E. Bowlin, Dayton 2004, has joined Heuer Law Offices S.C., Milwaukee. The firm practices exclusively in creditors' rights.

Thomas G. Cullen, Marquette 1986, has joined Godfrey, Leibsle, Blackbourn & Howarth S.C., Elkhorn, and focuses on real estate and development matters. He previously was a staff attorney with the Wisconsin Realtors^® Association.

Timothy R. Kraft, Marquette 2005, and Jeremy R. McKenzie, Marquette 2005, have joined the Milwaukee office of Davis & Kuelthau s.c. as associates. Kraft concentrates in corporate law, real estate, and commercial finance. McKenzie concentrates in commercial and civil litigation.

Joseph M. Fasi II, Stetson 1983, has joined Greenhalgh Krueger Hernandez & Fasi S.C. (formerly Greenhalgh & Krueger S.C.) as a shareholder. He is managing partner of the Milwaukee office and focuses on civil trials, professional negligence, personal injury, family law, real estate, and sports and entertainment law.

Alyssa (Kornacki) Gallot, Marquette 1993, has been elected a partner in the Paris office of Baker & McKenzie SCP. She is with the mergers and acquisitions/private equity group and handles cross-border acquisitions, venture capital transactions, and joint venture and strategic partnership implementation.

Michael S. Gibbs, Marquette 2005, has joined Averbeck & Hammer S.C., Fond du Lac, as an associate. His practice areas include personal injury, litigation, guardianship, and real estate.

Michael A. Hayes, Marquette 1999, has been promoted to vice president of Marsh USA Inc. He is a consultant with the mass torts and complex litigation consulting practice in the company's Chicago office.

Michael J. Hogan, St. Louis Univ. 1978, has been appointed acting associate director of university mission and identity at Marquette University. He also is opening a private mediation practice and continues to teach trial practice at Marquette Law School.

Three attorneys have joined Lindner & Marsack S.C., Milwaukee. Laura Lindner, U.W. 1993 cum laude, is a shareholder, concentrating in employment and benefits litigation. She formerly was a partner in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw and senior counsel at SBC Communications Inc. C. Ann Jordan, Iowa 2004, and Dan Pedriana, Wyoming 1999, are associates. Jordan practices labor and employment law, and Pedriana practices worker's compensation law.

Laura M. Lyons, Marquette 2005, has joined the Madison office of Peterson, Johnson & Murray S.C. as an associate.

Two attorneys have joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as associates. Frances M. Haas, Iowa 2004 with honors, has joined the litigation practice group in the Madison office. Katherine A. Kuchan, Marquette 2001, has joined the health care practice group in the Milwaukee office, focusing on health care risk management, regulatory compliance, survey and licensure matters, and health care contracting.

Aaron A. Nelson, U.W. 1996, has rejoined Doar, Drill & Skow S.C., Baldwin, and focuses on personal injury and criminal defense.

Kathryn K. Nova, U.W. 2004, has joined Kim & LaVoy S.C., Brookfield, as an associate, focusing on criminal defense, drunk driving cases, and traffic law defense.

Jacob Orth, U.W. 2005, has joined Murphy Desmond S.C., Madison, as an associate, focusing on civil litigation, bankruptcy, and family law.

Jessica A. Palmer-Denig, U.W. 1999 cum laude, has become manager of the Residential and Small Business Utilities Division of the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. Her previous practice within the office focused on bankruptcy, probate, and general civil litigation.

Douglas J. Phebus, Southern Illinois Univ. 1996, has been promoted to shareholder at Lawton & Cates S.C., Madison, and continues to focus on plaintiff's personal injury and worker's compensation cases.

Nilesh P. Patel, U.W. 2002, has formed the Mahadev Law Group LLC, 7545 Tree Lane, #104G, Madison, which focuses on employment and human resources issues for small businesses and human resources professionals. He also is a pension rights attorney at the Elder Law Center, Madison.

Authors, Speakers

Eunice Gibson, U.W. 1973, delivered a paper entitled "Constitutional and Statutory Protections for Hispanic Workers in the United States," at the 41st Congress of the Inter-American Bar Association in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in June. She previously was Madison City Attorney.

Ronald Z. Domsky, U.W. 1957, authored "Til Death Do Us Part ... After That, My Dear, You're on Your Own: A Practitioner's Guide to Disinheriting a Spouse in Illinois," Southern Ill. Univ. L.J. (Winter 2005). He is a professor at John Marshall Law School, Chicago.

Appointments, Elections

Three attorneys have been elected to the inaugural board of the Milwaukee Free Jazz Society. Christopher Stawski, Marquette 1986, board president, is with McGranaghan & Stawski Ltd., Milwaukee. Jerome Hierseman, Marquette 1986, board secretary, is with Gray & End LLP, Milwaukee. David Bourne, Marquette 1988, director at large, is with Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee.

Shannon B. Farrell, U.W. 1995 cum laude, will start a rotational assignment as an economic/consular officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, in October. She previously was a consular officer at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Bie

Ave Bie, U.W. 1990, has been elected to the Green Bay Packers board of directors. She is a partner with the public utilities and government law practice in the Madison office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

Lanier

Walter J. Lanier, Michigan 1995, has been reappointed chair of the Milwaukee County Pension Board. He is with Lanier, Pleas & Hopkins Ltd., Milwaukee.

Matthew J. Richburg, Thomas M. Cooley Law School 1996, has been elected to the executive council of the Young Members Section of the Commercial Law League of America. He is with Kohn Law Firm S.C., Milwaukee, and concentrates in commercial and credit card collection and litigation.

Monica M. Riederer, U.W. 2001, has been elected president of the Waukesha County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. She focuses on complex civil litigation and appellate matters at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee.

Cates	Mersky

Richard L. Cates, U.W. 1951, received the Charles L. Goldberg Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Law Foundation at the State Bar Annual Convention in May. He also received a mentorship award from the State Bar. Cates is a founder of Lawton & Cates S.C., Madison.

Kodner

Ross L. Kodner, Marquette 1986, received the 2005 Technolawyer Contributor of the Year Award from the Technolawyer Online Community. He is senior legal technologist and CEO with MicroLaw, Glendale.

Roy M. Mersky, U.W. 1952, received the 2005 Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award from the Amer-ican Association of Law Libraries. He is a professor and director of the Jamail Center for Legal Research at the University of Texas Law School.

Three attorneys from Quarles & Brady LLP are included in In Business magazine's 2005 Executive Register in recognition of their professional and community activities. John S. Robison, Illinois 1978, focuses on privately-held businesses, with an emphasis in business transactions, taxation, and health care. Donald K.
