Practice management seminar travels to Superior, Rhinelander, and Milwaukee

Learn how to avoid digital disasters, avert the perils of metadata, and anticipate malpractice traps at the Breakfast and Business: Eggs, Ethics, and Answers CLE seminar on June 18 in Superior, 8:15 - 11:15 a.m. This seminar is part of the State Bar Practice411™ program that travels statewide to assist lawyers in improving their efficiency in the delivery of legal services and in implementing systems and controls to reduce risk and improve client relations. The program is presented in collaboration with the Law Office Mangement Section, Tabs3, and LexisNexis.

Mondovi sole practitioner Robert Hagness will discuss malpractice traps presented in the ABA's Lawyer's Guide to Prevent Legal Malpractice. Appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court as a special investigator for the Office of Lawyer Regulation, Hagness will offer a variety of practice tips of interest to lawyers of all levels of experience. Attendees will benefit by hearing about others' mistakes and learn how to avoid making those mistakes.

State Bar Practice Management Advisor Nerino Petro will speak about safe computing and protecting your practice and clients from digital disasters. Explore the perils of metadata, inadequate backup, incomplete security, and failure to protect confidential information. Learn how to create an effective disaster plan and tips on communicating with clients, client confidentiality, fees, rules affecting conflict of interest, and advertising.

Petro will offer free individual consultations on timekeeping and billing software, hardware and office equipment purchases, business and financial planning, personnel, operations, and other practice management issues. Call (800) 444-9414, ext. 6014, to schedule your private appointment.

Similar seminars will be offered in Rhinelander on Sept. 24 and Milwaukee on Nov. 19. Tuition for the June seminar is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Up to 2.0 CLE and 2.0 EPR credits will be applied for. To register, call the State Bar or visit www.wisbar.org/cle.
