About the Program
Equip yourself to handle medical aspects of workplace injury
cases
At the annual Advanced Worker’s Compensation Symposium, you
get to see teams of doctors and lawyers examine medical issues seen in
litigated claims. Each presentation will focus on a specific area, and
explore the anatomy, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and assessment of
disability.
Exclusive access to MDs
Four million cases of nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses were
reported to the U.S. Dept. of Labor in 2007, a rate of 4.2 cases per
100 equivalent full-time workers. The rate in Wisconsin, however, is
26% higher, placing our state 7th highest in the country.
Because each session is presented by a lawyer and a medical doctor,
you get unique access to medical knowledge in a legal context. The
specific areas covered this year are:
- Thoracic spine injuries, both occupational and
traumatic
- Occupational asthma
- Hand/wrist injuries, including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,
deQuervain’s Disease, and tenosynovitis
In addition, a fourth session will give you insight on spotting the
“red flags” that help identify malingering and faking.
You’ll also learn how judges assess evidence and make final
decisions. So whether you’re handling your first case or your
thousandth, this State Bar of symposium will keep you up to date in
this complex area of the law.
