Touch the lives of many
You are used to being a client's "voice" in court. When it comes to
acting as a guardian ad litem (GAL) for adult clients, you've also got
to be their eyes and ears - to ensure their best interests are
served.
To accomplish that, you must understand the major
changes currently being made to adult guardianship, protective services,
and placement laws. Some of the changes may include:
- Assembly Bill 785 - revises Ch. 55 of the Wisconsin Statutes
governing protective services and placement.
- Senate Bill 391 - would completely rewrite Wisconsin's
guardianship statutes by modernizing terms, clarifying the law,
increasing rights of wards and proposed wards, and specifying
responsibilities of guardians.
- Assembly Bill 539 - would modernize the current adult protective
services system by creating a parallel system for reporting of abuse,
neglect, exploitation and self-neglect of those under 60 as well as
updating the current system for reporting elder abuse.
