    New Hires, Promotions, Partners

    Peter J. Carman Peter J. Carman, Catholic Univ. 2001, has joined Denissen, Kranzush, Mahoney & Ewald SC, Green Bay, as a senior associate and focuses on insurance defense and professional liability litigation.

    Stacy Alvarez Delzer, Marquette 1997, has joined Knight-Barry Title Group, Milwaukee, as the business development manager and focuses on commercial title sales and marketing.

    Noah D. Domnitz, Miami 2008, and Ann S. Jacobs, U.W. 1992 cum laude, have joined Domnitz & Skemp S.C., Milwaukee. Domnitz is an associate and emphasizes civil litigation.     Richard W. Graber Richard W. Graber, Boston Univ. 1981, has rejoined Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee, as a member of the business law and international practices. He previously was U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

    Kyle R. Hartman, Marquette 2006 cum laude, has taken a leave of absence from Seyfarth Shaw, Chicago, to deploy to Iraq with the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

    Chad G. Kerkman, U.W. 1997, has been elected to the Kenosha County Circuit Court. He previously was the sole shareholder of Kerkman Law Offices SC, Twin Lakes and Kenosha.

    Kurt Kobelt, George Washington 1980, has become general counsel for the Wisconsin Education Association Council, Madison. He previously was with Lawton & Cates S.C., Madison.

    Stacy M. Ludwig, U.W. 1988, has been promoted to deputy director of the Professional Responsibility Advisory Office, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. She also has become an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law School and has been appointed to the District of Columbia Bar’s legal ethics committee.

    Thomas B. Sewall, Northern Illinois 1996, has joined Schoenbohm Law S.C., Appleton, as an associate and focuses on bankruptcy law, family law, and criminal defense.

    Rachel K. Studinski, Marquette 2008, has joined Kids Matter Inc., Milwaukee, as legal advocate in the Fostering Healing program.

    Dennis Sullivan Michael A. Hughes Chilton Yambert & Porter LLP, with offices in Chicago, Joliet, Geneva and Waukegan, has opened a Madison office at 222 E. Washington Avenue, Suite 440. Dennis M.     Appointments, Elections

    Ave M. Bie, U.W. 1990, has been appointed to the board of the New York Independent System Operator, which operates New York’s bulk electricity grid and administers the state’s wholesale electricity markets. She is managing partner of the Madison office of Quarles & Brady LLP and focuses on energy, government relations, and corporate services.

    Lindsey Grady, Marquette 2000, has been appointed deputy register in probate for Milwaukee County.

    Patricia M. Hutter, Illinois 1997, has been named to the Milwaukee Ballet board. She is a partner in the corporate services practice of Quarles & Brady LLP’s Milwaukee office and focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital transactions, and general corporate matters.     The Hon. Joseph R. Wall, Marquette 1984, has been appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle to the Governor’s State Advisory Council on Early Childhood Education and Care. He is an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

    Authors, Speakers

    Dennis L. Boyer, West Virginia 1978, recently authored Listen to the Land (University of Wisconsin Press 2009), a collection of land use and conservation stories. He lives in Dodgeville and is active in environmental issues.

    Mark D. Munson Mark D. Munson, South Dakota 1999, copresented “The Administration and Taxation of Special Needs Trusts: What Every NAELA Attorney Needs to Know,” at the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in April. He is a senior associate with Ruder Ware LLSC, Wausau.

    Robert J. Misey Jr., Vanderbilt 1987, chair of the international practice at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee, spoke at the ABA International Law Section spring meeting on “Advanced Pricing Agreements and Other Practical Solutions to Global Transfer of Pricing Problems.” He also edited the firm’s new publication A Guide Detailing the Most Important Legal Considerations for Foreign Investors in the United States.

    The Hon. Charles B. Schudson, U.W. 1974, presented a law and literature seminar, “Brains and Biases/Yesterday and Today: Same ol’ same ol’ – or a whole new ball game in the age of Obama?”, at the Indiana Judicial Conference, Indianapolis, in April. He is a Wisconsin reserve judge and an adjunct professor at the U.W. and Marquette law schools.

    Len Zubrensky, U.W. 1949, has authored Let the High Jinks Begin, a political memoir about political and social relationships between the author and various politicians and judges. He is retired and lives in Milwaukee. Len Zubrensky

    Awards, Honors

    ABC for Health Inc., Madison, received the 2009 Public Health Advocacy Award from Public Health-Madison and Dane Country for its work on behalf of children and families seeking to receive health care benefits and services.

    Mick Hatch, Yale 1974, received the Navigator Award, a Milwaukee Award for Neighborhood Development Innovation, from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, which is devoted to neighborhood revitalization nationwide. He is a member of the real estate practice at Foley & Lardner LLP, Milwaukee.

    Mike Julka Mike Julka, U.W. 1976, received the 2008 George Tipler Award for Distinguished Service in School Law from the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association. He is a partner at Lathrop & Clark LLP, Madison.

    Liz Koch, Virginia 1998, was named faculty member of the year by the graduating seniors in the School of Business & Legal Studies, Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon. She is chair of the legal studies division and faculty advisor to the Concordia Society of Law. Liz Koch

    Cory L. Nettles Cory L. Nettles, U.W. 1996, was named “peak performer” by Junior Achievement of Wisconsin at its Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame induction dinner in April. He is a partner in the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP, focusing on corporate services, private equity, venture capital, and government relations, and is on the firm’s stimulus legislation and opportunities task force.

    Timothy F. Nixon, U.W. 1990, received the 2009 Judge John W. Reynolds Award from the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association. Nixon, who was honored for his commitment to addressing issues of culture and diversity in Green Bay, is a shareholder and team leader for the business finance and restructuring practice group and a member of the corporate and litigation practice groups in the Green Bay office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C.

    Pro Bono, Public Service

    The Hunger Task Force Inc. will receive funds raised through Foley & Lardner LLP’s 2009 K’s for a Cause program, run in conjunction with Brewers Charities and Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Dave Bush. Foley partners, associates, and staff members will donate to the Hunger Task Force for every regular-season strikeout recorded by a Brewers pitcher at Miller Park.
