Inside the Bar: Coming to a Screen Near You: CLE On Demand

Because we understand the challenges you face in physically attending continuing legal education programs, the State Bar is helping you earn CLE credits, 24/7, via your computer.

George BrownThis spring you will be able to get credit for viewing select State Bar CLE programs rebroadcast over the Internet anytime of the day or night.

On Jan. 29, the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued order 05-09 granting a petition from the Board of Bar Examiners (BBE) and supported by the State Bar that allows you to view qualified CLE programs over the Internet without having to interrupt your business day. These programs will already have been presented live or in another format and received CLE credit. Called "repeated on-demand programs," you can fulfill up to 10 of your 30 credit hours in this manner, except you cannot get EPR credits or use these on-demand programs to qualify for reinstatement, readmission, or reactivation.

We all know that the biggest cost of CLE is your time out of the office. State Bar CLE On Demand allows you to work your full day and pick up your CLE learning in the evenings or on weekends, at a time convenient to you, freeing you from travel time or having to reschedule meetings or other obligations to attend the CLE program you need.

Additionally, because the programs are available when you want them, you will be able to sign up for a program anytime. So if that meeting cancels at the last minute or that dispute settles on the courthouse steps, you can register for a program that meets your needs and be attending the program on your computer within a few minutes.

Any State Bar-produced CLE seminar, including on-demand seminars attended via WisBarTM, the Bar's Web site, automatically will be added to your individualized My CLE Tracker on WisBar. You can then use My CLE Tracker to help you complete your CLE Report Form 1 when it is due.

While the BBE develops its process for approving these courses, the State Bar is gearing up to deliver quality on-demand CLE programming to you - when you want it. Stay tuned for future announcements.

    And don't forget the popcorn!
