    Sue Provenzano, U.W. 1995, has been promoted to professor of practice at Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago. She recently coauthored The Conscious Curriculum: From Novice Towards Mastery in Written Legal Analysis and Advocacy, Northwestern University Law Review Colloquy (Sept. 2013).

    Nancy L. Wilson, U.W. 2002, has joined the Waukesha office of Axley Brynelson LLP and focuses on business, tax planning, estate planning, and estate administration.

    Jeremiah C. B. Van Hecke, Tulane 1999, has been named executive director of the Wisconsin Judicial Commission, an independent state agency that receives, investigates, and prosecutes claims of misconduct or disability against Wisconsin judges and justices. Van Hecke, previously a Milwaukee County assistant district attorney, replaces retiring executive director James C. Alexander, U.W. 1974.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

    Andrew Adams III, U.W. 2006, is a founding member of Hogen Adams PLLC, 1935 W. County Rd. B2, Suite 460, St. Paul, Minn., focusing on federal Indian law, tribal law, and litigation.

    Pia, Anderson, Dorius, Reynard & Moss has opened an office at 250 E. Wisconsin Ave., Ste. 1800, Milwaukee, led by new partners Joseph S. Goode, Syracuse 1994 cum laude, and Mark M. Leitner, U.W. 1985 cum laude. Goode focuses on franchise and dealership litigation, intellectual property litigation, class actions, and fiduciary disputes. Leitner focuses on franchise and dealership litigation, class actions, insurance coverage, and appeals. Jessica L. Farley, Marquette 2010 cum laude, has joined the office as an associate, focusing in commercial and intellectual property litigation. She previously was with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.

    J. Michael Bitney, Hamline 1985, has been appointed to the Barron County Circuit Court by Gov. Scott Walker. He previously was Washburn County district attorney.

    Albert S. OrrLarri J. BroomfieldAlbert S. Orr, Ohio State 1986, has been elected to the board of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee. He is cochair of the business law practice and chair of the private equity, venture capital, and corporate finance group. Larri J. Broomfield, Harvard 1988, has been reelected to the board. He is cochair of the health care practice and a member of the business law practice.

    Rebecca A. SpeckhardRebecca A. Speckhard, U.W. 1990, has been appointed national practice director of Quarles & Brady LLP’s public finance group. She focuses on municipal and governmental finance matters in the Milwaukee office.

    The Hon. Alan J. White, Nebraska 1982, has been reelected to the Columbia County Circuit Court.

    The Hon. Mary K. Wagner, U.W. 1982, Kenosha County Circuit Court, has been elected “chief of the chiefs,” chair of the 10 chief judges, each of whom oversees a Wisconsin judicial administrative district. Newly appointed chief judges are the Hon. James P. Daley, Marquette 1981, Rock County Circuit Court, 5th Judicial Administrative District; and the Hon. James J. Duvall, Minnesota 1978, Buffalo/Pepin County Circuit Courts, 7th Judicial Administrative District.

    Authors, Speakers

    Ronald Z. Domsky, U.W. 1957, authored Give Taxpayers a Break: Putting the Reliance Element Back Into the Reasonable Reliance and Good Faith Defense, 28 Akron Tax J. (2013). He is a professor of taxation at the John Marshall Law School, Chicago.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson, Indiana Univ.-Bloomington 1956, received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Indiana University.

    David C. Bender, U.W. 2003, received the Sierra Club’s 2013 William O. Douglas Award, a national award given to individuals who have made outstanding use of the legal process to achieve environmental goals. Bender, a shareholder with McGillivray Westerberg & Bender LLC, Madison, works to protect public health and the environment from coal-fired power plants nationwide.

    The Hon. Jean DiMotto, Marquette 1984, Milwaukee County Circuit Court, received the Founder’s Award from the Association for Women Lawyers.

    Michael Hupy, Marquette 1972, was inducted as a Fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation. He is a shareholder with the personal injury law firm Hupy and Abraham S.C., Milwaukee.

    Mitchell S. Moser, Northwestern 1991, was honored by the Milwaukee Jewish Federation in August for his exemplary leadership and service as the federation’s campaign chair. Moser is a partner with Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee.

    Timothy F. Nixon, U.W. 1990, received the 2013 Daniel Whitney Award from the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of outstanding volunteer service. Nixon is a shareholder with the Green Bay office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C., chair of the business finance and restructuring practice group, and a member of the corporate and litigation practice groups.

    Quarles & Brady LLP received the Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in September, in honor of its criminal appellate and death penalty representation program and a truancy court project. The firm also has been named a “Litigation Powerhouse” by BTI Consulting Group Inc. in the categories of IP litigation, complex employment litigation, routine employment litigation, and most-feared litigation firms.

    Stuart SchroederStuart Schroeder, Oklahoma City Univ. 1977, received the Don Richards Leadership Award at the Waukesha County Business Alliance annual meeting in September, in honor of his outstanding leadership, vision, and accomplishments. He is with The Schroeder Group S.C., Attorneys at Law, Waukesha.

    Peter M. Sommerhauser, Northwestern 1968, received the Benefactor Award from the Penfield Children’s Center in recognition of his generous support of the agency’s mission and contributions to the success of children throughout Milwaukee. He is a shareholder and member of the corporate practice group in the Milwaukee office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C.
