    New Hires, Promotions, Partners

    Thomas Armstrong, U.W. 1975 magna cum laude, has joined von Briesen & Roper s.c., Milwaukee, as a shareholder, focusing on appellate advocacy and commercial litigation. He previously was a senior litigation partner in the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

    Liza Barry-Kessler, U.W. 1997, has joined EarthLink Inc., Atlanta, Ga., as senior product manager in the security products group, working on parental controls, antispyware, and antiphishing efforts. She also is coauthor of Privacy in the 21st Century: Issues for Public, School, and Academic Libraries (Libraries Unlimited).

    Sheri Kasper Hank, U.W. 1992, has joined Jostens Inc., Minneapolis, as associate general counsel. She previously was a shareholder with Curtin & Rasley, Minneapolis.

    Tim Kiefer, Harvard 1998, has joined the U.S. Foreign Service as a vice consul assigned to the U.S. Consulate General, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

    Donald F. Kiesling Jr., Marquette 1997, has joined the legal department of Safway Services, Waukesha. He previously was with We Energies, Milwaukee.

    Tony Kordus, Nebraska 1997, has been made a partner at Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay, continuing to concentrate in commercial litigation and business law with a focus on municipal and insurance law.

    James P. O'Neil, Marquette 1988, has been called to active duty with the U.S. Army for an 18-month tour and has temporarily closed his practice, O'Neil Law Offices, Green Bay.

    Jeffrey D. Patza, Marquette 2000, has joined Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C., Milwaukee, practicing in environmental and general commercial litigation. He previously was with Hinshaw & Culbertson.

    Gregory S. Pokrass, U.W. 1975, has become an administrative law judge with the Milwaukee office of the Social Security Administration. He previously was a commissioner for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

    Lora L. Zimmer, Yale 2003, has joined the Appleton office of Hinshaw& Culbertson LLP as an associate, focusing on the defense of medical malpractice, products liability, and personal injury matters. She previously was an Outagamie County assistant district attorney in Appleton.

    John D. Finerty Jr., Marquette 1992, has been appointed chair of the civil litigation section of the Milwaukee Bar Association. He is a partner with the Milwaukee office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, focusing on litigation.

    The Fond du Lac County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Terrence J. Gaffney; president-elect - Michael E. O'Rourke; secretary - Nicholas A. Brannen; and treasurer - Dawn M. Sabel, all of Fond du Lac.

    Dennis R. Cimpl, Marquette 1975, has been elected to Milwaukee County Circuit Court Branch 19 for a term beginning Aug. 1, 2005. Gov. Jim Doyle also appointed him to the court to fill the unexpired term of the Hon. John McCormick, Marquette 1951.

    The Kenosha County Bar Association has selected the following officers: president - Nicole L. Beddings; vice president - George H. Easton; secretary - Karin Anderson Riccio; and treasurer - Christine A. Gabron, all of Kenosha.

    Dennis R. McBride, New York Univ. 1980, has been reelected chair of the Wauwatosa Civil Service Commission. He is a senior trial attorney in the Milwaukee district office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
