Milwaukee Attorneys Elected to State Bar Board of Governors
MADISON, April 27, 2001 - Seven Milwaukee area
attorneys were elected to seats on the State Bar's Board of Governors,
according to the preliminary election results. The board manages and
directs the affairs of the 20,000 plus members association. The new term
for board members begins July 1 and lasts two years. The following
Milwaukee area attorneys won board seats.
John Busch of Michael, Best & Friedrich law firm in Milwaukee
received his law degree from Duke University Law School and has been
listed in Barrister's Who's Who in America, Best Lawyers in
America and is a member of the American Inns of Court.
Gregg Herman of Loeb & Herman law firm in Milwaukee was
re-elected for another term on the board. Herman earned his law degree
from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and has written extensively
in the field of family law. Herman is also the Executive Director of the
collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin, Inc. and a former
president of the Milwaukee Bar Association.
James Brennan is the Chief Staff Attorney for the Legal Aid Society
of Milwaukee's Civil Division. Brennan currently serves on the board and
was re-elected for another term. He has been on the board since 1997 and
currently serves as its chair.
Peter Kafkas is an Administrative Law Judge with the Wisconsin
Division of Hearings and Appeals. He earned his law degree from
Marquette University Law School and was a member of the State Bar of
Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners Review Committee from 1996-2000.
Grant Langley has served as Milwaukee City Attorney since 1984, and
was Assistant City Attorney for 13 years prior to that. Langley has been
on the State Bar Board of Governors since 1999 and was re-elected for
another term.
Cory Nettles of Quarles & Brady in Milwaukee has been re-elected
to the Board of Governors. He received his law degree from the
University of Wisconsin Law School and is a member of several State Bar
committees and sections.
Daniel Shneidman of Shneidman Myers Dowling Blumenfield Ehlke Hawks
Domer in Milwaukee was re-elected to another two-year term on the board.
Schneidman is also a frequent lecturer and author on professional ethics
and responsibilities, and employment and labor law.
The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association,
created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a law
license in Wisconsin. With more than 20,000 members, the State Bar aids
the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides
continuing legal education for its members, and carries out initiatives
to educate the public about the legal system. The elected officers work
with the State Bar Board of Governors to manage and direct the
association's affairs.
