Madison Attorney to Be Sworn in as State Bar President
Madison, May 1, 2001 - Madison attorney Gerald
Mowris of Pellino, Rosen, Mowris & Kirkhuff will be sworn in as the
46th president of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Wisconsin Supreme Court
Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson will address the guests and administer
the oath of office.
Mowris will be sworn in at the bar's Annual Convention in Lake Geneva
on Thursday evening, May 3 during the Presidential Ceremonial Reception.
The event will be held at the Grand Geneva Hotel's Pavillion from 4:30
pm - 6:30 pm.
Mowris will officially serve as president from July 1 until June 30
of next year, and succeeds current President Gary Bakke as State Bar
leader. The bar includes a membership of more than 20,000 attorneys,
with about 13,000 of them in Wisconsin.
"With Gary Bakke's fine leadership this past year, the Bar has made
great progress in identifying and trying to respond to the upcoming
changes in our profession and the Justice System. I hope to build on
that progress and continue the effort to keep the State Bar of Wisconsin
where it is now, the best State Bar Association in the country," said
Mowris.
He also wants to work closely with the Wisconsin Supreme Court and
lawmakers. "I look forward to working with our Supreme Court to assure
that our judicial system continues to serve the public and is able to
provide equal access to all its citizens. The proposed State Budget
presents difficult problems for the system and I hope to be able to work
together with the Legislature and our new Governor to find solutions
that enable us to continue to serve the public interest in an efficient
and cost effective manner," Mowris added.
