State Bar accepting nominations for top judges
Madison, July 1, 1998 - The State Bar of Wisconsin
is now accepting nominations for two judicial awards. The nominations
are being accepted through October 30, 1998.
The Judge of the Year Award will go to a judge who has improved the
judicial system and shown leadership in advancing the quality of justice
during the past year. Candidates for the Jurist Lifetime Achievement
Award should have at least 12 years experience as a trial judge and
demonstrated outstanding, long-term judicial service during his or her
years as a sitting trial judge.
Previous Judge of the Year winners were Eau Claire County Circuit
Court Judge Thomas Barland and Racine County Judge Dennis Barry. The
first winner of the Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award was Milwaukee
County Circuit Court Judge John Decker.
The 1998 Judge of the Year Award will be given at the State Bar
Midwinter Convention in January, 1999. The 1998 Jurist Lifetime
Achievement Award will be given at the State Bar Annual Meeting in June,
