Appleton's Froehlich named "Judge of the Year"

Madison, December 1, 1998 - Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge Harold V. Froehlich has been named the State Bar of Wisconsin's 1998 Judge of the Year.

This is the third year for the award, presented annually by the State Bar's Bench Bar Committee. The honor recognizes judges who have improved the judicial system and shown leadership in advancing the quality of justice during the past year. Previous winners were Eau Claire County Judge Thomas Barland and Racine County Judge Dennis Barry.

Judge Froehlich has been on the bench for 17 years. His career began in 1962 when he began his private law practice. At the same time, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly and became Assembly Speaker within four years. In 1973, Judge Froehlich successfully ran for a seat in the U.S. Congress.

Judge Froehlich is currently the presiding Administrative Judge for Outagamie County and the longest-standing Circuit Court Judge in Outagamie County. Froehlich is recognized for his instrumental role in the program that has resulted in counties being provided state resources for interpreters' fees, guardian ad litem fees, juror fees, and judicial assistant expenses.

Judge Froehlich has also been active in his community as a member of the Appleton Jaycees, the Appleton Noon Optimists, and the Black Creek Lions' club. He has also served as a member of the American Legion and VFW Post and is listed in Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in America.

The Judge of the Year award will be presented to Judge Froehlich at the State Bar Midwinter Convention, which will be held at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee January 29, 1999.
