Appleton's Froehlich named "Judge of the Year"
Madison, December 1, 1998 - Outagamie County Circuit
Court Judge Harold V. Froehlich has been named the State Bar of
Wisconsin's 1998 Judge of the Year.
This is the third year for the award, presented annually by the State
Bar's Bench Bar Committee. The honor recognizes judges who have improved
the judicial system and shown leadership in advancing the quality of
justice during the past year. Previous winners were Eau Claire County
Judge Thomas Barland and Racine County Judge Dennis Barry.
Judge Froehlich has been on the bench for 17 years. His career began
in 1962 when he began his private law practice. At the same time, he was
elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly and became Assembly Speaker
within four years. In 1973, Judge Froehlich successfully ran for a seat
in the U.S. Congress.
Judge Froehlich is currently the presiding Administrative Judge for
Outagamie County and the longest-standing Circuit Court Judge in
Outagamie County. Froehlich is recognized for his instrumental role in
the program that has resulted in counties being provided state resources
for interpreters' fees, guardian ad litem fees, juror fees, and judicial
assistant expenses.
Judge Froehlich has also been active in his community as a member of
the Appleton Jaycees, the Appleton Noon Optimists, and the Black Creek
Lions' club. He has also served as a member of the American Legion and
VFW Post and is listed in Who's Who in the Midwest and
Who's Who in America.
The Judge of the Year award will be presented to Judge Froehlich at
the State Bar Midwinter Convention, which
will be held at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee January 29,
1999.
