Become a Better Lawyer: Earn CLE Credit and Discover New Solutions at the June Annual Meeting & Conference

More than two dozen quality CLE sessions are offered at the State Bar’s Annual Meeting & Conference this June.

March 18, 2015 – Look for quality CLE sessions to help you enhance your practice when you attend the 2015 State Bar of Wisconsin Annual Meeting & Conference (AMC) at Lake Geneva in June.

Earn up to 13 CLE and 8.5 EPR credits with your choice of quality CLE sessions on Thursday and Friday, June 25 and 26, and a pre-conference session on Wednesday.

Explore how state and federal statutes and regulations affect local planning and land use decisions with Friday’s session, “Frac Sand Mining and the Challenges to Local Land Use, Construction and Environmental Management,” led by Jodi Arndt of Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry SC of Green Bay, and Mitchell Olson of Axley Brynelson LLP of Madison. The session, presented by the Environmental Law and Construction and Public Contract Law sections, will discuss local land use issues for municipalities and counties that face tough decisions.

Become more comfortable with the basic principles of Indian law at Friday’s “Indian Law – An Introduction for Wisconsin Practioners.” The session will be led by Kris Goodwill of the Menominee Tribal Courts, Carolyn G. Grzelak of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Eric Lochen of Lochen Silva of Minneapolis – licensed to practice law in six tribal jurisdictions including three in Wisconsin, and James Zorn of the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission.

The session will help you navigate the maze of tribal, state, and federal jurisdictions as well as explore tribal sovereignty among the 11 federally recognized tribes in Wisconsin. Become acquainted with available resources that will also help you gain a better understanding of the Wisconsin Indian Child Welfare Act and treaty.

Young lawyers won’t want to miss the session that will help them gain confidence and skills needed to try civil trials. Friday’s session, “You Can Do It! Civil Trial Essentials for Young Lawyers” will provide a roadmap to preparing cases during the discovery process. This CLE session will help you withstand intimidation tactics by more experience counsel, remain firm during mediation, and focus on the important details of trial preparation.

Gain practical tech solutions for your law practice with Thursday’s session, “There’s a Solution for That: Tech Tips for Common Practice Needs,” presented by Tison Rhine, advisor to the State Bar's Law Office Management Assistance Program. Tison will discuss tech products and solutions specific to law-practice needs involving software, hardware, mobile apps, websites, office equipment and other necessities.

In other CLE sessions, you have the opportunity to:

    • Develop a plan to withstand IRS attacks in tax planning
    • Learn how to use bankruptcy to help your lawsuit
