“I am honored to be nominated to run for reelection to this important post. As an attorney, I have greatly valued the opportunity to improve the administration of justice in our state’s courts. With my extensive experience in the law, coupled with my term as chair of the Judicial Council, I have the in-depth knowledge it takes to be an effective advocate for the legal profession in this role,” said Bertz. “I humbly ask my fellow Wisconsin attorneys for their support.”

Bertz graduated from Marquette University Law School in 1962, where he was the assistant editor of the Marquette Law Review. He graduated with honors from the University of St. Thomas in 1959. Bertz was inducted as a Fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation in 2014. He is also an active State Bar volunteer, having served as member of the Board of Governors, the Executive Committee, and the Litigation Section. Bertz is also the past president of the Western District of Wisconsin Bar Association, the Portage County Bar Association, and the Wisconsin Association of Worker’s Compensation Attorneys.

Bertz’s community involvement includes the Chancellor’s Advisory Council at UW-Stevens Point and the Stevens Point Rotary Club.

The term is three years, and begins on July 1, 2015.

Bertz’s challenger is Joseph M. Russell of von Briesen & Roper S.C. in Milwaukee. The candidates were selected by the State Bar Nominating Committee, chaired by Michael Guerin of Milwaukee. The attorneys who are elected will take office on July 1, 2015.

The Board of Governors, the State Bar's policymaking body, will also elect governors in several State Bar districts, including 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15. Governors serve two-year terms.
