Madison, WI – The State Bar of Wisconsin applauds the recipients of the 2013 Golden Gavel Awards for their important contributions to the public’s understanding of our system of law and justice. The winners in the Print Media/Newspaper category of the competition are being recognized at the Wisconsin Newspaper Association’sconvention in Waukesha on Friday, February 28.
This year’s Golden Gavel Print Media/Newspaper winners are Kristen Zambo and Stephanie Jones of the Racine Journal Times for their series of stories covering the Curt Johnson Case; Paul Srubas of the Green Bay Press-Gazette for his article, Abuse victims need safety plan; and Shereen Siewert of the Wausau Daily Herald for her article, In OWI homicide, 'there can't be any winners.'
“Reporting these stories in an accurate and compelling way is crucial to ensuring the public truly understands the justice system, and appreciates our system of law,” said Attorney Megan McDermott, co-chair of the State Bar’s Media Law Subcommittee. “We thank these journalists for a job well done.”
