    2016 Young Lawyers Conference

Keynote presenter and attorney Michael Moore speaks to a full room at the 2016 Young Lawyers Conference in Madison.

Feb. 1, 2017 – It’s the don’t-miss event of the year for Wisconsin young lawyers. Registration is free for the eighth annual Young Lawyers Conference on Friday, March 24, at the Tundra Lodge & Conference Center in Green Bay.

The conference, sponsored by the State Bar of Wisconsin Young Lawyers Division (YLD), offers free CLE for all YLD members – lawyers within the first five years of practice or under the age of 36. The YLD is committed to providing leadership training and networking opportunities to members.

“The conference is more than just an opportunity for free CLE,” said Emily Logan Stedman, YLD board member and conference co-chair. “It gives young lawyers great information and CLE sessions, and provides them with a wonderful opportunity to network both professionally and socially with other young lawyers from across the state.”

Keynote Topics: Technology, Globalization, and the Future of the Profession

Learn how young lawyers can help shape the delivery of legal services from attorney Chad Burton, CEO of CuroLegal, LLC, Beavercreek, Ohio.

In his morning keynote presentation, Burton will speak on “How Young Lawyers Can Help Shape the Delivery of Legal Services.” He will discuss the direction of the legal profession, as well as specifics for using technology in practice, following online marketing trends, and meeting cybersecurity needs.

A former litigator who developed one of the nation’s first “new model” law firms, Burton understands how to leverage cloud-based technology and modern business practices to develop a lean virtual law firm. He admits to “an unhealthy obsession” with experimenting with the latest legal and productivity technologies.

Kick off the afternoon with the G. Lane Ware Keynote Leadership presentation by Wisconsin attorney and mentor Frank Steeves, retired global general counsel of Emerson Electric Co., St. Louis.

Steeves will speak on “Globalization and the U.S. Law Practice.”

“Frank is a terrific example for young lawyers of someone who did not start out immediately at a large law firm, but has reached incredible heights with his legal career,” said Jesse Dill, vice chair of the YLD Leadership Development Committee and chair of the Leadership Development Summit. “He holds a high priority on mentoring young lawyers.”
