Volunteer Lawyers Needed to Judge Regional and State Mock Trial

The Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Program brings our legal system to life for thousands of students. Attorney volunteers are needed as judges at the regional and state tournaments in February and March.

Nov. 18, 2015 – The Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Program gives high school students the opportunity to analyze and prepare a case using facts and case materials developed by Wisconsin attorneys.

The program needs volunteer lawyers and judges at statewide locations on Saturday, Feb. 13, and in Madison on Saturday, March 12.

    What is Mock Trial?

The Mock Trial program provides high school students with an opportunity to act as attorneys and witnesses in a court case developed by State Bar members. The students – in teams of six to 12 – argue a civil case before a panel of volunteer attorneys and judges in the regional competitions. Teams are scored on their knowledge of the rules of evidence, the quality of their direct and cross examinations, and opening and closing statements.

The winners advance to the semifinals in Madison, and the two finalists will appear in the Supreme Court Room before a panel of experienced volunteer judges.

Mock Trial, funded by the Wisconsin Law Foundation, is a well-established program that works because of the ongoing support and participation of hundreds of State Bar members annually, including volunteer judges in the tournaments.
