    Leaders Needed: Run for a 2016 State Bar Leadership Position

    2015 mapSept. 16, 2015 – Member volunteers are the driving force behind State Bar of Wisconsin programs and initiatives.

    Leaders of all experience levels are welcome and needed – and when you get involved, you help shape the future of your Bar and your profession.

    Please consider contributing your time and expertise as an officer or Board of Governors representative.

    Candidates are needed for these positions:

    State Bar Officers

    The State Bar will elect a president-elect, a secretary, and a Judicial Council representative in 2016. Members wishing to be considered for one of these offices should send a letter of interest before Oct. 1 via email to Jan Marks. Or mail the letter to Jan Marks, State Bar of Wisconsin, P.O. Box 7158, Madison, WI 53707-7158.

    The State Bar Nomination Committee, to be appointed at the Sept. 25-26 Board of Governors meeting, will announce its slate of candidates by Dec. 15.

    State Bar members also can make officer nominations by filing a petition signed by 100 active State Bar members. Nominations should be sent to Jan Marks by Feb. 1, 2016. For an officer petition, contact Jan Marks at (608) 250-6106, or (800) 444-9404, ext. 6106.

    Board of Governors

    The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.

    Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16 will elect governors in 2016. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects five; District 6 (Waukesha) elects two; District 9 (Dane) elects four; and all other districts elect one.

    To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition to the State Bar by March 1, 2016, that is signed by 10 active members in their district.

    State Bar election ballots will be mailed no later than April 8, 2016, and must be returned by April 22, 2016.

    Persons elected will take office July 1, 2016.
