Sharpen Your Shingle with Good Business Skills at PINNACLE’s New Business School for Lawyers

Whether you are a new lawyer hanging a shingle or if you are transitioning to your own firm after years of working for others, the Business School for Lawyers program will give you information about creating a practice from the ground up: from where you want to locate your office, to what you need in the office, to how to attract clients.

July 2, 2014 – Opening a law firm often sounds like a good idea, but in practice, new law firm owners often find themselves trying to practice law and run a highly regulated business without support or guidance. In this new State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE program, Business School for Lawyers (BSL), law firm coaches and managers will teach you business school concepts to help you start and grow your law firm ethically, efficiently, and effectively.

The State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE introduces Business School for Lawyers. There are two upcoming programs: Business Plans for Lawyers on Aug. 13; and Business Principles for a Successful Law Firm on Sept. 16. Additional programs will be offered at the Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Conference from Oct. 23 to 25.

New Program for Law Firm Owners and Managers

Whether you are a new lawyer hanging a shingle or you are transitioning to your own firm after years of working for others, the Business School for Lawyers program will give you information about creating a practice from the ground up: from where you want to locate your office, to what you need in the office, to how to attract clients – and all from a business school perspective. Bring your business plan, network, and discuss business school concepts such as operations, financial management, marketing, and human resources at a variety of seminars and locations.

    What’s Different About This Program

There are many law firm "checklists" readily available to lawyers, including the "Considerations for Starting a Law Practice" offered annually by the Solo Small Firm & General Practice Section and other resources offered through the State Bar's Law Office Management and Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Programs. Designed after several years of market research and with the assistance of focus groups, the University of Wisconsin Law School Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic, and Wisconsin Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company, the Business School for Lawyers program complements these offerings with business school concepts shared by professional law firm coaches.

    The Choice is Yours!

There are two upcoming seminar programs: Business Plans for Lawyers  on Aug. 13 and Business Principles for a Successful Law Firm on Sept. 16. Additional BSL designated programs will be offered at the Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Conference, Oct. 23-25, addressing significant topics from varied perspectives. As an added bonus, the sessions will be filmed and available as webcast replays.

Mark your calendars. Business School for Lawyers registration is open now.
