State Bar members connect through social media

facebookAug. 18, 2010 – It’s not news that, social networking tools are connecting millions of people daily. Did you know there are several State Bar of Wisconsin-related pages that offer members the opportunity to connect with each other and stay abreast of news in the legal profession?

State Bar of Wisconsin. The State Bar created its Facebook page in November of 2009 and now has more than 500 members. Members also can follow the State Bar on Twitter.

Nonresident Lawyers Division. The Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) has created Facebook pages for the Division and its DC Area and Northern California chapters. Check out these pages for breaking news for NRLD members and information on upcoming local events. The division’s goal is to have a page created for each local chapter.

Young Lawyers Division. The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) has a Facebook group. “Membership in the YLD is automatic for attorneys who are either under 36 years old or in their first five years of practice following admission to the State Bar, but anyone is welcome to join the YLD Facebookgroup,” says YLD past president Nick Vivian. “We hope to be a source of networking opportunities and look forward to great discussions.”

Pro Bono Program. Members also can follow and support the State Bar’s pro bono program on Facebook. “Facebook provides opportunities for learning and sharing information with others who have an interest in using web 2.0 tools to advance the cause of equal justice for all,” says State Bar Pro Bono coordinator Jeff Brown. “Let us know what you would like to see on the page and upload your photos or videos of local pro bono events.” Become a Pro Bono Program fan on Facebook.

Government Relations. Members can follow legislative, judicial, and administrative developments that impact the legal profession and the justice system by following Rotunda Report on Facebook. Rotunda Report, the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Government Relations e-newsletter, is published twice a month and is distributed free to attorneys, public officials, and others who help shape public policy in Wisconsin.
