Free Training to Fight the Flood of Foreclosures
Helping homeowners; strengthening communities

Wisconsin foreclosures soared 62 percent in 2008, according to RealtyTrack Inc., and the February 2009 total was up almost 11 percent from January. Thousands of properties are in jeopardy, often with bewildered homeowners who don’t know their legal rights. The results have been devastating for homeowners and their communities.

There are at least two things you can do to help. First, you can get the training you need to make a difference. The training opportunity described below will get you started. Then, you can put your new skills to use helping to provide volunteer legal assistance to people in your community who need your help (more on that later).

Representing Homeowners in Default and Foreclosure is designed to give you the basic training and skills you need to join attorneys around the state who are working to help Wisconsin homeowners in financial distress.

This full-day course will cover vital topics such as:

  • Negotiating loan modifications or other foreclosure prevention solutions
  • Using the new federal “Making Home Affordable” program to refinance
  • Taking advantage of lender-initiated programs
  • Mounting legal defenses and counterclaims
  • Understanding bankruptcy and foreclosure

Your presenters will be two leaders in the field: Catherine M. Doyle, chief staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, and David Leibowitz, founder and partner of LakeLaw.

These free training opportunities have been organized by the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee with support from WHEDA and the State Bar of Wisconsin. The State Bar will seek BBE approval for up to 5 CLE credits.

Take the first step towards assisting Wisconsin homeowners in danger of foreclosure. Sign up for this seminar!
