  • Wisconsin Lawyer December 2009: What Keeps You Awake at Night?: How can I say no to handling my family members’ legal matters, and still get invited to holiday gatherings? - 12/04/09
I don’t have a problem saying no when my brother-in-law asks me to represent him in an OWI case, because I don’t practice in that area. But how can I say no to my sister when she asks for help with a legal matter in my practice area? I’d still like to see my niece and nephews and be welcome at holiday gatherings. - Read More
  • Wisconsin Lawyer December 2009: Ethics: Duty to Communicate with Client - 12/04/09
One of the most common reasons for a grievance being brought against a lawyer is actually based on a failure to communicate instead of a violation of other Rules of Professional Conduct. • Wisconsin Lawyer December 2009: Managing Risk: Heightened Standard of Care when Communicating with Clients in the Digital Age - 12/04/09

Marketing Tip

File Folders

Use the EGG system. Every time you meet a person, be enthusiastic – enthusiastic about meeting them, who they are, what they do and why.  Remember to use who, what, when, where, and why – tell them who you are, what you do, when you do it, where you do it and why you do it.  Then get their business card, address and information on how to reach them. Then give back to them a personal note, an actual piece of mail (not email), a nice card (not a form letter), telling them that you appreciated meeting them and wish them the best.  You may not get business from them, but you will get referrals and that is the name of the game. – Carl R. Edenhofer Jr., Edenhofer Law Offices SC
