Statement on Communications Committee Composition

In order to fulfill its mission, the Communications Committee believes that the committee's composition should reflect the diversity of the State Bar's membership. The committee asks the incoming State Bar's President to consider the following background and qualifications when making appointments to the Communications Committee:

  • Publishing/Editorial/Professional Communications experience

  • Demonstrated writing ability

  • Electronic communications experience

  • Inclusion of lawyers who work in the private sector, the public sector, and in legal education

  • Within the private sector, inclusion of lawyers from both large and small or solo practices

  • Representation from all areas of Wisconsin, as well as non-resident lawyers

  • Representation reflecting the diversity of the State Bar as to gender and ethnicity/culture

  • Representation from a variety of substantive areas of legal practice;

  • Intellectual property law expertise

  • Inclusion of lawyers at varied levels of experience

  • Inclusion of one public member, preferably with a publication/communications professional background

  • Inclusion of at least one member, who may or may not be the Board liaison, who has experience working within the organized State Bar as a whole

  • Inclusion of members with longevity on the Communications Committee itself, subject to By-law restraints, for their value in providing continuity and historical perspective

To be considered for an appointment to another term on the committee following completion of one term, active participation on the committee will generally be required.
