Wisconsin Databases - General

University of Wisconsin Law School Career Center

UW Law School graduates can obtain a password for the job databank by calling the Career Center. All others are assessed a fee of $50/year or $25/6 months.

Marquette University Law School Career Center

Access to Marquette University's job databank is limited to Marquette law students and alumni, who can obtain a password from Marquette's Career Center. However, Marquette's website contains links to most of the major Milwaukee and Madison law firms.

State Bar of Wisconsin Career Center

The Wisconsin Bar Association posts job openings on its website. Job seekers also can access the classified section of the Wisconsin Lawyer, the Bar Association magazine, at this site.

Government and Tribal Employers

State of Wisconsin

The State of Wisconsin job bank contains listings for legal jobs at the state level. In addition, it contains listings for assistant district attorney (ADA) and corporation counsel positions for the counties.

U.S. Government

Job listings for U.S. government agencies can be difficult to locate. Many are listed by the Office of Personnel Management.

Positions with the federal court systems, including law clerk positions, are posted on the Federal Judiciary's website.

The U.S. Court for the Western District of Wisconsin (located in Madison) also posts its own job vacancies.

Not all of Wisconsin's tribes operate websites. The ones that do are listed below.

Evergreen State college maintains a fairly comprehensive collection of links to tribal websites.

Public Interest Jobs

Public Service Law Net

The Public Service Law Net maintains a nationwide database of employment opportunities in public interest positions, including internships, fellowships, and post-graduate employment (including some law school faculty positions). The user can refine searches by geographic area or type of position sought. Registration is required. Basic registration is free, and that gives the user access to the employment listings. Additional services are available for a fee.

Findlaw

Findlaw's career website allows users to conduct a nationwide job search by geographic location, job type, and 44 separate practice areas. It also offers a good selection of career resources, including salary charts and employer directories. Law.com

Law.com allows users to search for attorney, paralegal, or secretarial positions by state. Most (although not all) of the positions are posted by headhunters.

Monster.com

This heavily advertised website allows users to conduct a nationwide job search by geographic location and category, and users can further refine the search by using keywords. Wisconsin is broken down into five locations: Milwaukee, Madison, the Fox Cities, Eau Claire/LaCrosse, and Northern.

Paladian Law Careers

This website has no job listings, but it offers a wide selection of links to nationwide employment resources.

Vault.com

Vault.com lists professional jobs, including legal jobs, that are searchable by state. Employers are anonymous; the job-seeker views a short position description and then submits a resume and cover letter through Vault. Registration is required, but the basic service level is free.
