New Hires, Promotions, Partners

Chamberlain

Hon. William A. Bablitch, U.W. 1968, has joined the Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in the litigation and government and public policy groups, concentrating on appellate practice, government and public policy, and alternative dispute resolution. He retired from the Wisconsin Supreme Court on July 31.

Jennifer A. Chamberlain, Franklin Pierce Law Center 2002, has joined Czachor & Polack LLP as an associate, concentrating in family law, personal injury, and civil litigation. She practices in the firm's Green Bay and Oconto offices.

Michael P. Cotter, Marquette 1998, has been appointed director of the Walworth County Land Use and Resource Management Department. He previously was an assistant corporation counsel for Walworth County, focusing on land use matters. He continues to serve as municipal judge for the village of East Troy.

Laurence J. Dupuis, N.Y.U. 1996 magna cum laude, has joined the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin Foundation as legal director, providing direct representation in civil liberties and civil rights matters and coordinating volunteer lawyers. He previously was a staff attorney at Legal Action of Wisconsin's Milwaukee office.

Shannon B. Farrell, U.W. 1995 cum laude, has become a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State, serving as vice consul at the U.S. Embassy, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She previously was an associate in the Milwaukee office of Foley & Lardner.

Lokrantz	Roetter

Maureen A. Lokrantz, Marquette 2002, and Theresa R. Roetter, Marquette 1993, have joined Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger & Hughes LLP, Madison. Lokrantz, an associate, focuses on elder law, estate planning, probate, real estate, and mediation. Roetter,
a senior associate, focuses on adoption law, child protection, and family law.

Nicholas S. Harned, U.W. 1998 cum laude, L.L.M. (health law) Loyola University-Chicago 2001, has joined the Chicago office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLC as an associate in the health care group. He focuses on anti-kickback and self-referral laws, HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid certification and reimbursement, sales and acquisitions, joint ventures, and
general corporate matters.

Steven A. Heinzen, U.W. 1998 cum laude, has joined LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn, Madison, in the litigation practice group. He previously was an associate on the litigation team at Foley & Lardner, focusing on eminent domain issues.

Steven W. Jelenchick, Marquette 2001, has joined Beck, Chaet & Bamberger S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate in the litigation section.

Jane E. Hosmanek Kaiser, St. Louis University 1983, has joined Ad Quest Promotions Inc., Racine, as an account executive. She also is president of Communicator for Hire Inc., Franklin, a marketing communications and public relations consulting firm.

Katja Kunzke, U.W. 1982, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief operations officer at Wisconsin Lawyers Mutual Insurance Co., Madison. She previously was vice president-claims.

Donald E. Locke, Minnesota 1997 cum laude, has been appointed a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. He previously practiced law in Milwaukee.

Alan Marcuvitz, Marquette 1957, Gregory I. Devorkin, Marquette 1993, Robert L. Gordon, U.W. 1975, and Andrea H. Roschke, U.W. 1982, have joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee, in the property tax assessment, condemnation, and zoning and land use teams.

D. Alexander Martin, Marquette 2003 magna cum laude, has joined Hayes & Rothstein S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate, concentrating in bankruptcy law.

The following attorneys have joined Murn & Martin S.C., Waukesha, as associates. Stacy Alvarez Delzer, Marquette 1997, focuses in residential and commercial real estate, land use and zoning, corporate, and estate planning. She previously was associate general counsel with MLG Commercial.

J. Michael Long, Marquette 1995, concentrates in government relations, telecommunications, land use and zoning matters, and tort, business, and real estate litigation. He previously was with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. Rebecca J.R. Roeker, Marquette 2003, practices in residential and commercial real estate, land use and zoning, corporate, and estate planning. Elizabeth R. Sundquist, Marquette 2003, practices in tort, business, and real estate litigation and government relations.

Michael F. O'Brien, U.W. 1980, has joined Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C., Eau Claire, as a shareholder in the litigation section.

Curt Paulsen, Marquette 1985, has joined Safway Services Inc., Waukesha, as vice president, general counsel. He previously was with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., Milwaukee.

Perreault

Michele Perreault, U.W. 2003 magna cum laude, has joined the Capitol Square (Madison) office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C. as an associate, focusing in litigation and
family law.

George D. Mistrioty, Marquette 1991, has joined Petrie & Stocking S.C., Milwaukee, as a shareholder. He previously was a solo practitioner doing business as Mistrioty Law Offices in Walworth County, focusing on divorce and family law, personal injury, and civil litigation. Lydia J. (Wilhelmi) Chartre, Marquette 2003, has joined the firm as an associate, practicing general litigation with a focus on commercial, real estate, and
business law.

William "Bill" Richards, U.W. 1987, has joined the Milwaukee office of Gendlin & Liverman S.C., focusing on tort litigation. He previously was with Vlasak & Britton.

David Westrup, Michigan 1989 cum laude, has been promoted to share-holder at von Briesen & Roper S.C., Milwaukee. He practices in the litigation and risk management practice group, focusing on class actions and product liability, intellectual property, insurance coverage, breach of contract, warranty, and negligence actions. He also was appointed to the board of directors for the Milwaukee Bar Association.

James O. Sullivan Jr., Marquette 2001, has joined the health practice group, concentrating on health care contracting, federal compliance issues, and Medicare reimbursement.

In the Madison office: Thomas M. Krupsky, Marquette 1998, has joined the business practice group, focusing in business planning, residential and commercial real estate transactions and leases, and estate planning.

Brian P. Rohde, Marquette 1995, has been appointed as an attorney-advisor to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, at Chicago Midway International Airport.

Harvey Sernovitz, U.W. 1999 cum laude, has become a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State, serving as a political officer at the U.S. Consulate General, Guangzhou, China. He previously was an associate at Deloitte & Touche, Milwaukee.

Jeffrey S. Krause, Marquette 1996, and John C. Wilets, U.W. 1995, have formed Information Technology Professionals LLC, providing technology consulting to attorneys

Appointments, Elections

Hon. Shirley S. Abrahamson, Indiana University-Bloomington 1956, has been chosen president-elect of the national Conference of Chief Justices, which represents the top judicial officers of
the 50 states and the U.S. territories. She is chief justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The Association of Women Lawyers of Brown County has chosen the following officers: president - Debra L. Holewinski, Green Bay; vice president (membership) - Elyse M. Stackhouse, Green Bay; vice president (meetings and special events) - Trisha J. Sandoz, De Pere; and treasurer - Paula J. Lynch, Green Bay.

The Calumet County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Jeffrey S. Froehlich; president-elect - Terri L. Weber; and secretary/treasurer - Melody Buchinger, all of Chilton.

Peter C. Christianson, U.W. 1977, has been named to the Wisconsin Alumni Association board of directors. He is a partner with the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

The Dodge County Bar Association has selected the following officers: president - James H. Olson; president-elect - Lisa L. Derr; and secretary/treasurer - Cassel McClure, all of Beaver Dam.

Hughes

Shawn D. Guse, U.W. 1995, has been appointed as a fellow of the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section and has been elected as a Wisconsin delegate to the ABA. He is an associate with the Madison office of Quarles & Brady LLP, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities, and private equity and venture capital.

Barbara S. Hughes, U.W. 1986, has been appointed to the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys board of directors. She is a partner at Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger & Hughes LLP, Madison, focusing on elder law, marital property, estate planning, probate, and trust administration.

The Jefferson County Bar Association has selected the following officers: president - Jennifer L. Weber, Johnson Creek; vice president - Vicki E. Zick, Johnson Creek; and secretary/treasurer - Constance L. Hartel, Fort Atkinson.

Coleen Kennedy, U.W. 1978, has been appointed a special investigator for the Office of Lawyer Regulation by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Delos Lutton, Chicago 1973, has been elected president of the Union Internationale des Avocats (Union of International Attorneys) for 2005. He is a partner with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., Milwaukee.

Podell

Richard J. Podell, U.W. 1969, was elected as a delegate-at-large to the ABA House of Delegates and to the governing council of the ABA Individual Rights and Responsibilities Section. He also received an award for outstanding service from the ABA Family Law Section.

Hon. Patience Drake Roggensack, U.W. 1980, was sworn in to the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Sept. 12. She previously was a judge on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and is the first judge in that court's 25-year history to serve on the supreme court. Roggensack was elected in April to a 10-year term.

Schuett

Laura E. Schuett, U.W. 1985, has been appointed by Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker to the Lakefront Task Force, which will draft standards and criteria for development on Milwaukee's Lake Michigan shoreline. She is a shareholder at Cook & Franke S.C., concentrating in litigation.

The Winnebago County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Jennifer F. Thompson, Oshkosh; president-elect - John S. Zarbano, Oshkosh; and secretary/treasurer - Brenda Bann, Appleton.

The Wood County Bar Association has selected the following officers: president - Timothy S. Gebert, Wisconsin Rapids; president-elect - Harold C. Wolfgram, Marshfield; secretary - Amy Boettcher, Wisconsin Rapids; and treasurer - Frances A. Washington, Marshfield.

Correction: Al Chapin, Marinette, has been elected vice president of the Marinette County Bar Association, not president-elect as previously reported.

Retirements

Kathryn M. Bullon, U.W. 1980, has retired from law practice after 23 years with Edgarton, St. Peter, Petak & Rosenfeldt, Fond du Lac.

Suhr

Frederick C. Suhr, U.W. 1935, has retired from Boardman Law Firm LLP, Madison (formerly Boardman, Suhr, Curry & Field LLP), where he focused on real estate, corporate and tax law, probate, wills, trusts, and estate planning.

Authors, Speakers

Col. Paul E. Conrad, U.W. 1981, authored "Are You Ready for Mobilization? Advice for Reservist Attorneys in Private Practice," Dialogue (Summer 2003), published by the ABA Legal Services Division. He is currently assigned to the Office of the Judge Advocate General, U.S. Army, and is president of the State Bar Nonresident Lawyers Division.

Pro Bono Public Service

Michael F. Hupy, Marquette 1972, of Michael F. Hupy & Associates S.C., Milwaukee, donated four tickets for the 100th Anniversary of Harley Davidson to New York City firefighters, also Harley riders. The firm also helps to financially sponsor "Crash Course
for Motorcyclists," taught every year at various Wisconsin locations.
