Learn How to Protect Those Who Can’t Protect Themselves

"The life span of any civilization can be measured by the respect and care that is given to its elderly citizens."

What is true for your ward with dementia can also apply to the developmentally disabled and any adults who can no longer take care of themselves – they need a trusted guardian ad litem to help manage their affairs and give them the care and respect they deserve.

To ensure you get the training needed to assist your wards, the State Bar of Wisconsin CLE Seminars offers Adult GAL 2008. Whether you are new to adult guardianship or want a refresher, this seminar has something you need:

• Find out what to do when your ward needs mental health treatment in a proper facility
• Understand what factors doctors look for so you can raise questions when your ward’s competency is being evaluated
• Learn the “how to’s” of communicating effectively with elderly people with dementia and the developmentally disabled
• Explore available community resources and how to match them to your wards’ needs
• Learn the signs of abuse and how to report them and intervene legally
• Avoid ethical dilemmas by recognizing potential conflicts of interest and not crossing the line
