    Court of appeals limits employer’s ability to avoid payments to employee

    Feb. 8, 2010 – The Wisconsin Court of Appeals remanded a case in which an employee alleges her employer fired her merely to avoid paying benefits she earned before discharge. If true, the court found that agency law obliges the employer to pay.

    Car Talk: Justices to consider when a motorist has 'run' from scene of accident

    Feb. 5, 2010 — A motorist stopped to ask if he hurt a boy he hit with his car before driving away without providing identification after the boy said he was unharmed. The Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Feb. 10 and decide whether hit-and-run insurance covers the boy when he subsequently discovered injuries.

    Feb. 4, 2010 – For the second time in two months, the Senate Judiciary Committee today recommended approval of President Barack Obama’s nomination of former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler as a federal district court judge for the Western District of Wisconsin.

    Feb. 3, 2010 – The Wisconsin Supreme Court held that only legally obtained evidence served as a basis for a search warrant. But two dissenting justices questioned whether information learned from an illegal search actually influenced the police decision to seek a warrant and the magistrate’s decision to grant it.

    Feb. 2, 2010 – The Wisconsin Supreme Court rejected a defendant’s effort to introduce the results of a preliminary breath test he believed showed a blood alcohol content level below the legal limit. State law prohibits the use of those test results in drunk driving trials.
