    Nov. 4, 2009 – Following a public hearing on Nov. 2, the Wisconsin Supreme Court approved petition 09-06, which the State Bar filed this summer to amend Supreme Court Rule 10.04(1) to permit non-resident members of the State Bar to hold office as treasurer, secretary and chairperson of the Board of Governors.

    Nov. 2, 2009 – The Wisconsin Supreme Court has unanimously approved a rule-making petition filed by the State Bar of Wisconsin to clarify the class of judicial membership in the Bar.

    A lawyer may not engage in behavior or conduct that is strictly designed to harass or intimidate another person, including threatening to file a grievance about another lawyer with the Office of Lawyer Regulation. Yet, lawyers have an ethical obligation to report on the known misconduct of other lawyers. The test may come down to proving intent and defining “knows.”

    Sept. 16, 2009 – Join a network of attorneys who share their knowledge in particular areas of law with other lawyers through free, brief telephone consultations. This attorney network helps increase competence within the profession, reduce malpractice, and provide better delivery of legal services to the public.

  • Fund for Client Protection approves reimbursements for lawyer theft victims, increases maximum reimbursable amount

    Sept. 2, 2009 – The Wisconsin Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection Committee approved $294,147.14 in reimbursements to 13 victims of lawyer theft at its August meeting. The committee considered 32 claims – five of which were deferred from FY 09. Nine claims were denied; and 10 were deferred. The dollar amount being sought for the deferred claims totals $347,525. The committee also increased the reimbursable amount for each victim from $75,000 to $150,000.
