Local Bar Grant Competition

Local Bar Grant Competition Committee next meeting date: April 28, 2010

Application deadline: April 26, 2010

The Local Bar Grant Competition makes funds available to local bar associations for new public service projects. Bar associations can receive up to $2,500 in grant monies for a new, useful and topical public service project that has statewide application.

Note: Due to the date projects were completed, it is possible that changes in legislation may directly effect the information presented.

Instructional video for pro se litigants who request the issuance of temporary restraining orders and injunctions relating to domestic abuse and harassment.

An informational videotape for the public on the mediation process.

Family Court - Introduction to Mediation and Parenting after Separation -- Walworth County Bar Association

Moving On: Pro Se Divorce -- Dane County Bar Association

The video is designed to assist pro se litigants in navigating the divorce process.

Moving On: Your Divorce Trail -- Dane County Bar Association

This video will give you a demonstration of what to expect during your divorce trial. This video is intended to educate parties in a divorce action who are not represented by an attorney. English and Spanish version.

Small Claims Court - Mock Trial -- Ozaukee County Bar Association

The videotape provides the public with a clear explanation of how they should prepare for, and try, a small claims dispute.

A "Road Map" for Domestic Abuse Victims -- Association of Women Lawyers

Explaining the procedural process and a resource manual of services for domestic violence victims. Written in Spanish and in English.

Abuse Survivors: What About Custody and Physical Placement -- Marathon County Bar Association

Informational brochure addressing basic legal questions about custody concerns for people leaving abusive relations.

Consumer's Guide to Assisted Living Facilities -- Dane County Bar Association

An informational booklet.

Fact sheets, translated into Hmong, regarding juvenile criminal, CHIPS proceedings and family law issues in the Southeast Asian community -- Marathon County Bar Association, completed in 2001

Going to Court: Tips and Advice for Representing Yourself in the Legal System -- Douglas County Bar Association, completed in 2004.

Hmong-English legal glossary - Marathon County Bar Association, completed in 2006

Developed in conjunction with the Director of State Courts Office, this glossary defines more than 800 common court terms and suggests equivalent Hmong phrases for many of them. It defines both general court terms and specific terms for criminal, juvenile, family, eviction, small claims, probate, and deportation cases.

How to Collect on Court-Ordered Restitution -- Waukesha County Bar Association

An informational booklet.

10th Judicial Circuit Pro Se Litigants Project -- St. Croix Valley Bar Association, completed in 2003

Pro se forms for divorce with children and divorce without children.

Juvenile Justice Lesson Plan -- Dane County Bar Association (completed in 1999 - Due to the date projects were completed, it is possible that changes in legislation may directly effect the information presented.)

Lesson plans include the crimes of battery, burglary, sexual contact, retail theft, criminal trespass, criminal damage and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. The plans can be used for middle school or high school students and were written as a unit of approximately one to three weeks. Also included are suggestions for a mock trial.

Landlord/Tenant Issues -- Marathon County Bar Association

A series of 10 informational brochures on landlord/tenant issues.

Pro Bono Panel -- Green County Bar Association

Established a pro bono panel to represent victims of domestic violence at injuction hearings.

Pro Se Center for Post Divorce Litigation -- Richland County Bar Association, completed in 2002

Real Life Marriage and DivorcePDF 530 KB -- Jefferson County Bar Association

Curriculum outline in basic form for a 13-week course designed to fit into a high school human relations course that informs students about the realities of marriage. Teachers are encouraged to prepare their own course materials and identify the appropriate speaker to discuss the identified outline topics.

Small Claims and Landlord/Tenant brochures translated in Hmong -- Marathon County Bar Association, completed in 2005

The five brochures cover the topics of Small Claims Court Information, Small Claims Instruction, Repairs and Security Deposits, Terminating Tenancies, Eviction, Visitors, and Pets

Hotlines

Landlord/Tenant Automated Hotline -- Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association

The automated hotline provides six topics of recorded information on landlord/tenant law. The topics are security deposits, repairs, prohibited landlord practices, evictions, penalties and remedies for landlord/tenant violations and where to obtain additional information.
