The State Bar of Wisconsin operates a confidential Lawyer Dispute Resolution (“LDR”) Program to help lawyers resolve by mediation or arbitration disputes involving such matters as law firm dissolutions, the termination or departure of lawyers from a firm, and fee disputes between firms while balancing the interests of lawyers, law firms and their clients.
Mediation and arbitration may be used separately or in combination. Parties may mediate or arbitrate first, and, if that effort fails, proceed to arbitrate or mediate the remaining issues without paying a new case administration fee. Parties may select their arbitrator or mediator from a list of Wisconsin lawyer-neutrals.
Mediation and arbitration may be conducted at any site convenient to the parties. Case administration fees are modest, and the program’s rules are geared to the prompt, efficient, fair and confidential resolution of controversies in keeping with the needs of the parties.
