Who may borrow materials?

The following people may review and borrow materials from the State Bar of Wisconsin (SBW) LOMAP Lending Library (LOMAP LL):

  • Judges and staff of the Wisconsin Court System
  • Municipal judges
  • Attorneys in private practice who are members of the SBW
  • Staff of attorneys in private practice (authorization required)
  • Attorneys in other than private practice who are members of the SBW.

The LOMAP LL also circulates materials by mail to Wisconsin judges and attorneys licensed to practice in Wisconsin. The shipping cost is $7.50 for one (1) item and $10.00 for two (2) items.

Are there costs for borrowing materials?

The only costs involved are for shipping the items to you if you are unable to pick them up from the Bar center or if you fail to return them to the Lending Library.

The cost to ship one (1) item is $7.50 and to ship two (2) items its $10.00.

Costs for return shipping are paid by you. We strongly suggest that you return items using a delivery service that provides proof of delivery. If we do not receive the books back and you cannot provide evidence of tracking and signature for delivery, you will be charged for the replacement cost of the item or items.

How can I borrow materials from the LOMAP LL?

If you are eligible to borrow materials, you must complete a LOMAP LL Application. This form is available in person, via email, or online in MS Word or Adobe PDF format. The borrowing application may also be returned to the State Bar via fax at (608) 257-5502.

Why do I need to complete an application?

The LOMAP LL is a service available for all members of the SBW, but has limited resources. The application insures that only authorized persons borrow materials from LOMAP LL and also provides an acknowledgement of your responsibilities and obligations.

Can my staff use my application to borrow materials?

No. Please notify us that the individual works for you and that you would like to approve an application to him/her. You are responsible for materials checked out by your staff.

Are all materials able to be borrowed and is there a borrowing limit?

Software may not be borrowed. All other materials whether print or audio are available to be borrowed. You may have no more than two (2) items checked out at any one time.

How long is the Borrowing Period?

As we have limited resources, you may borrow items for a period of 3 weeks which begins on the date the item is sent. Items must be returned on the date which is 3 weeks from the date sent or if this date falls on a weekend or a national holiday, the next business day. Materials are to be returned to:

Law Office Management Assistance Program
State Bar of Wisconsin
5302 Eastpark Blvd.
P.O. Box 7158
Madison, WI 53707

What if my materials are due but I still need to use them?

Due to the limited amount of materials in the LOMAP LL and the demand for these items, generally there are no extensions available. However, you may request a 1 week extension by contacting the Practice Management Program at (800) 444-9404 ext 6014. Any extensions will be at the sole discretion of the Practice Management Advisor. If you owe overdue fines or if someone has placed a hold on your item, you will not be able to renew it.

How much are overdue fines?

Overdue fines are $1.00 per item per day. Overdue notices are issued by email. If the item is not returned within two weeks of the due date, an invoice for the cost of the book is mailed. Anyone owing $2.00 or more in fines must pay in full before borrowing additional items.

If I'm not eligible to borrow materials, are there other options?

You are welcome to visit us in person to use any of our materials.
