On Nov. 1, the newest State Bar of Wisconsin member benefit will become available when the State Bar and Fastcase, Inc. release a new service to members. With this new benefit, you will have 24/7 access to free, online legal research through Fastcase’s national database of caselaw, statutes, administrative codes, and court rules.
This new service will not only help you be more efficient in your day-to-day work, it will provide you with research tools to assist you in better representing your clients, and possibly save you significant dollars in legal research expenses each year.
If you are a month-to-month Fastcase subscriber currently, you should cancel your Fastcase research services no later than Oct. 15. On Nov. 1, you may begin using the State Bar portal to access the same services for FREE as a benefit of your State Bar of Wisconsin membership. If you have questions regarding your subscription between Oct. 15 and Nov. 1, contact Fastcase’s customer service department at (866) 773-2782.
Fastcase provides extensive resources to help you learn the system. Similar to other online legal research products, you do not need an understanding of complicated technology. Navigation and searching are easy and intuitive. Extensive demonstrations, tutorials, and training sessions – from the fundamentals of printing to constructing queries and search on the Advanced Caselaw Search Page – are available now to help you make full use of the service.
Although the service will not be available until November, the State Bar is announcing the new benefit now as it could impact your decisions regarding future research service needs and providers. Take a few moments to step through the tutorials, and if you like what you see, sign up today for a 24-hour free trial, which gives you unlimited access to this comprehensive case law database.
On Nov. 1, you will be able to access this new online research service through the State Bar Website. After arriving at wisbar.org, you will log-in to the site with your existing State Bar username and password. Once logged in, you will access the Fastcase portal by simply following the legal research shortcut on WisBar’s homepage.
