Wisconsin Supreme Court sets fall hearing dates; issues orders

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has scheduled a public hearing on Oct. 28 at 9:30 a.m. on Court of Appeals petitions 08-15 and 08-18, relating to the electronic filing of appellate briefs and nomerit reports. The public hearing will be followed by an administrative conference on State Bar petition 07-09, relating to the Definition of the Practice of Law.

The court has scheduled a public hearing for Nov. 10 at 9:45 a.m. on Board of Bar Examiners petitions 08-05, 08-06, and 08-14 relating to notices of noncompliance with CLE requirements and reinstatement, the manner of filing documents relating to CLE requirements, and the filing of application for admission and the fee for late application under the diploma privilege.

Final Orders. The court issued the final orders, effective Jan. 1, 2009, for the following petitions:

  • 04-08 filed by the Judicial Council regarding rules of appellate procedures.
  • 06-06 filed by the State Bar to amend Chapter 20 Rules of Professional Conduct regarding the temporary practice of law by lawyers not licensed to practice in Wisconsin as well as changes to rules governing admission pro hac vice.
  • 07-11 filed by the Director of State Courts regarding the discretionary transfer of cases to tribal courts.
  • 08-01 filed by the Director of State Courts to amend Chapter 756 of the Wisconsin Statutes relating to juries to improve and clarify provisions governing the management of jurors in the circuit courts.
