Enroll by Jan. 25
Law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies can provide summer employment and valuable legal experience to first-year law students of diverse backgrounds by participating in the 2008 State Bar Diversity Clerkship Program.
The Diversity Outreach Committee sponsors the program to help employers gain greater access to law students of diverse backgrounds.
"The program serves both the legal profession and law schools by recruiting and placing talented law students in legal settings while preparing them for future careers in law," says program chair Roger Flores.
"The program requires first-year law students to make a serious commitment to accept an assigned match with one of our participating employers," says Flores. "In return, law students receive full-time, paid employment and gain real world legal experience with early exposure to career and networking opportunities."
Marquette and U.W. law school students of diverse backgrounds who have successfully completed their first year may apply. After a rigorous application, interview, and selection process, the committee matches qualified students with employers. Employers agree to hire a program student on the same terms as other first-year summer associates - providing the same salary, work experience, and social opportunities.
Employers can enroll through Jan. 25. For more information, contact Patricia Morgan, (608) 250-6107.
