The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009: Highlights of $300 billion in individual and business tax relief

March 4, 2009 – The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is one of the most massive and far-reaching pieces of legislation in history. Through direct spending on infrastructure in the public and private sectors, and nearly $300 billion in tax relief, ARRA is intended to boost the economy out of recession. In all, the new law makes more than 300 changes to the Internal Revenue Code. Jamey Rappis gives an overview of the Act’s individual and business tax benefits.


Fifty-seven percent of Wisconsin lawyers would vote for a voluntary bar, but members cite more important issues confronting the State Bar, according to survey

March 4, 2009 – Fifty-seven percent of Wisconsin lawyers would likely vote for voluntary bar membership, according to a State Bar November 2008 Member Satisfaction Survey. Achieving voluntary bar membership is listed among the top three issues confronting the State Bar by just one in four lawyers, and only 14 percent consider it to be the most important issue. Providing products and services for all lawyers, being a voice for the legal profession, and supplying CLE programs were named as the three most pressing matters by at least one-half of members.
