Deal or no deal? Justices to consider when a trial court may reject a plea agreement

Nov. 18, 2009 — When a trial court rejected a plea agreement as too lenient, the attorney general said the judge was improperly substituting his opinion for that of the prosecutor. But the judge says case law gives him an independent supervisory role. The Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear the dispute.

Nov. 18, 2009 — The hard work of narrowing the field of potential presidential nominees for judicial openings in Wisconsin's Western District, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. attorney positions for the Eastern and Western districts of Wisconsin fell upon Wisconsin's Federal Nominating Commission.

Nov. 18, 2009 — In this video, Justice Ann Walsh Bradley calls for nominations for two outstanding jurists to honor with its annual judicial awards, sponsored by the State Bar’s Bench and Bar Committee. The committee is seeking nominations for the 2009 Judge of the Year and Lifetime Jurist Achievement awards. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 15, 2010.
